The Bocksten Man, a bog body discovered in 1936. Notable examples include the Bocksten Man, the Tollund Man, the Lindow Man and the Lindow Woman. It is unclear whether the bog bodies were sacrificed, executed, or murdered. The victims had subsequently been dumped in swamps where they were naturally mummified. Bog bodies are a numerous class of people who had been violently killed from prehistoric times into the Middle Ages.Currently, it is believed that Ötzi bled to death after being hit by an arrow which shattered the scapula and damaged nerves and blood vessels before lodging near the lung. The cause of death remained uncertain until 10 years after the discovery of the body. The mummy was found in September 1991 in the Ötztal Alps. Ötzi, also called the Iceman, is the well-preserved natural mummy of a man who lived between 34 BCE.As with most things surrounding the mummies' lives, his murder remains a mystery. The Gebelein Man (18–20), one of six naturally mummified bodies dating back to 3400 BC found in 1896 in Egypt, is suspected to have been murdered, because a 2012 CAT scan determined that there were puncture wounds on his body. This list of unsolved murders includes notable cases where victims have been murdered under unknown circumstances.
